Students of Science Education Doctoral Program UNY Participate in ICERI 2024 and Doctoral Dissertation Grant Research Monitoring

Yogyakarta, October 17, 2024 – As part of its efforts to support the accelerated graduation of doctoral students, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) held a monitoring and evaluation (monev) activity for doctoral dissertation grant research. This event was integrated with The 12th International Conference on Educational Research and Innovation (ICERI 2024), which took place on Wednesday and Thursday, October 16-17, 2024, at the Performance Hall, Faculty of Languages and Arts, UNY.

Seven doctoral students from UNY’s Science Education Doctoral Program were recipients of the doctoral dissertation grant funding based on the Decree of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) Number 0459/E5/PG.02.00/2024 on Recipients of the Operational Assistance Program for State Universities for Research and Community Service Programs for the 2024 Fiscal Year. This grant was provided to support the implementation of dissertation research, enabling students to complete their studies on time. The overarching theme of ICERI 2024, “Transformation of Research and Community Service in Enhancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” served as an inspiring backdrop for the monev activities. ICERI 2024 was attended by approximately 1,000 researchers, featuring discussions and presentations of the latest research relevant to achieving sustainable development goals.

During the monev sessions, grant recipients presented their dissertation research progress to reviewers. Some highlighted their contributions to science education innovation, the development of Inquiry-STEM models, as well as the application of ethnoscience in learning, such as Culturally Responsive Teaching or ethnoscience in Project-Based Learning. UNY’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs emphasized the significance of monev as a form of academic responsibility for grant recipients. “This grant is not just financial support but also a mandate to produce high-quality research with a broad impact. Through this monev, we ensure that every step of the research process stays on track,” he stated.

This activity is expected to provide additional motivation for doctoral students to complete their research successfully. “ICERI 2024 is an extraordinary opportunity for us because, in addition to participating in an international conference, we also had the chance for an evaluation that enriched our research,” said one monev participant. With the successful organization of ICERI 2024 and the monev for doctoral dissertation grant research, UNY reaffirms its commitment to supporting educational research innovations aligned with achieving SDGs and addressing current educational needs.
