GUEST LECTURE AT UNY: PROJECT AND PROBLEM BASED LEARNING MODEL IN SCIENCE LEARNING
Primary tabs
On April 24, 2024, the Department of Science Education, Yogyakarta State University, held a highly anticipated Guest Lecture featuring Dr. Termizi from the Sultan Idris Education University as a resource person. This event was moderated by Rizki Arumning Tyas and attended by Masters and Doctoral Science Education students. Dr. Termizi, an expert in science education from Sultan Idris Education University, is widely known for his contribution to developing innovative learning models. He has years of experience implementing project-based and problem-based learning models at various levels of education.
The main theme discussed in this Guest Lecture is the Project and Problem-Based Learning (PjBL and PBL) model in science learning. Dr. Termizi provides an in-depth explanation of these two models. Dr. Termizi explained how PjBL and PBL can be integrated into the science curriculum to increase student engagement and learning motivation. He provided concrete examples from personal experience and various school and university case studies. Students are invited to understand the main benefits of these two models, such as increasing critical thinking skills, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities. Apart from that, Dr. Termizi also discussed the challenges that might be faced, such as the need for adequate resources and the readiness of lecturers to adopt this method.
The discussion session moderated by Rizki Arumning Tyas was very interactive. Science Education Masters and Doctoral students actively ask questions and share their experiences related to implementing PjBL and PBL. Questions include evaluation strategies, overcoming resource constraints, and engaging less motivated students in projects and problem-solving. This event ended with a group photo session, and souvenirs were given to Dr. Termizi as a form of appreciation for his contribution to sharing very valuable knowledge and experience.
