VISITING PROFESSOR WITH PROF. AMY CUTTER-MACKENZIE-KNOWLES FROM SOUTHERN CROSS UNIVERSITY

Visiting professors are held in the science education department, which lasts for three days, Monday-Wednesday, 7-9 August 2023, at the FMIPA UNY Seminar Room. The activity was attended by 92 students at the UNY Science Education Department. The topics used as discussion material on the first day were ecology and ecological literacy. Activities occur interactively, where students are invited to learn outside the classroom and interact directly with the environment and natural surroundings.

The topics discussed on the second day were related to the Human Position in Their Environmental Systems and Its Problems and Green Technology. The topic highlighted today was See, Hear, Feel, and Think in terms of connecting students with the environment. Prof. Amy focuses on teaching students as future teachers, so Prof. Amy emphasizes that students must know the environment well and care about the environment so that later, they can provide students with materials related to the environment. Students are also invited to remember when they were children for the first time when they interacted with the environment. Apart from being invited to interact directly with the environment, students can also make presentations in front of the class.

On the third day, Prof. Amy brought a direct object in the form of polluted water because the topic on day 3 was Environmental Pollution. Students are invited to discuss the types of pollution, the causes of a polluted environment, and how to deal with a polluted environment. Prof. Amy also brought a real object in the form of a terrarium. Students were invited to identify the components of a terrarium and what topics could be studied using this media. While attending the visiting professor, students were very happy because they received new information about understanding the environment differently. (cc: Rizki Arumning Tyas)
